Yosemite Gold PanningOn your next trip to Yosemite why not try a little gold panning. Below are several resources for prospecting and panning for gold near Yosemite National Park. Gold Fever Prospecting is based on the Fresno River and Yosemite is almost in our back yard. We've travelled extensively throughout the area searching for gold hot spots and have found quite a few. Did you know much of the placer gold in our famous gold panning bags comes straight from the gold bearing streams which surround Yosemite? Be sure to check out The Merced River and of course the local streams and creeks in and around Mariposa, including Hornitos and Agua Fria. There is usually pretty easy access to these rivers and streams, sometimes even right off the road, but be aware that the best gold is not usually found within easy access to heavily travelled roads. You can expect that you won't be the first person to try their luck at that spot. Indeed many of the best strikes of the gold rush era were right in this very same area. Thousands of modern day prospectors (weekend warriors) annually try their luck in this area too. Don't be discouraged though, all the gold is not gone! Read up on our free gold prospecting tips and tricks pages and use that knowledge to improve your chances. Most casual gold panners don't study in advance or practice their techniques before heading out to the river. Don't be one of them. Try some of our gold panning bags loaded with real gold and nuggets and get a jump on the competition. Acquire some panning skills so when you get the chance to dip your pan in the water you'll know what works and what doesn't. Panning for gold is quite simple and a skill anyone can master, however, if you don't have the basics down you will be losing out on lots of gold. It's a heck of a thing to get in a great spot and come up with nothing in your pan. Study our tips to know where and how to dig the best material for your gold pan or sluice box. Learn the spots to avoid to maximize your chances. Do you need alot of fancy equipment to find gold? No you don't. Prospecting still begins and ends with the basic gold pan. Add a sluice box to improve your rate of production (move more material per hour) and that's all you really need. Find all the basics in our gold prospecting equipment section. We've selected only the best and most affordable items to get you started. We even have several pre-made prospecting kits ready to go for you. And all are compact enough to travel with easily. Many of our customers keep one in their car or truck just in case.
